Career Development Advisor
Biography
Heather Dicks, Career Development Advisor, joined the EXCEL team in 2017. She has been supporting people labeled with disabilities (and their families) in areas of employment, independent living, education, transition, advocacy, Christian camping, and adapted recreation since the mid 1990’s. Her career spans three different states (Massachusetts, Maine, and Georgia). Heather moved to Georgia in 2006 as a defensive move against snowstorms.
In Maine, Heather served in the role of Transition Coordinator with STRIVE U: the State's post-secondary pilot program for students with developmental disabilities. In Georgia, outside of her career, Heather has taught classes for the Atlanta Area Council of Scouts BSA on adapting program activities for scouts with special needs, and is also an active member of DisabilityIn of Greater Atlanta. In 2023, she was a panelist on a special called “Breaking Barriers: Embracing Disabilities in the Workforce.” It was produced by WorkingNation and aired on WABE and PBS channels across the nation.
Heather’s passion is helping all people achieve their maximum level of independence and she enjoys challenging EXCEL students to achieve their maximum potential.
