Lecturer / Senior Lecturer
The EXCEL Program is part of the College of Lifetime Learning and housed within CEISMC. EXCEL is a four-year college certificate program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Students enrolled in EXCEL work toward earning two professional education certificates while developing competencies across academic, social, and career domains. Through a structured and supportive environment, EXCEL fosters the growth of essential academic skills, social engagement, independent living abilities, and vocational readiness. The program is committed to preparing students not only for competitive employment but also for meaningful, self-determined lives within their communities.
Job Summary
The EXCEL Program, part of the College of Lifetime Learning and housed within the Center for Education, Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC) at the Georgia Institute of Technology invites applications for a Lecturer position. Applicants will be considered at all ranks. Candidates are expected to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to the teaching and mentoring of EXCEL students. This academic, non-tenure track position combines curriculum development, lesson planning, course instruction, student advising, and administrative responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Job Duties Include:
- Teaching EXCEL courses (e.g., Fundamentals, Independent Living, Social Skills, Financial Literacy)
- Modifying and adapting course content as needed.
- Developing and updating EXCEL course curricula
- Advising and mentoring students through regular weekly meetings
- Building and maintaining relationships with Georgia Tech faculty who teach courses.
- Providing classroom accommodations and curriculum modifications for EXCEL students
- Co-managing the EXCEL tutoring program, including recruiting, hiring, training, and scheduling 50 or more undergraduate student tutors and teaching assistants.
- Coordinating with Georgia Tech Professional Education to ensure accurate transcript recording, certificate completion, grade reporting, and course scheduling.
- Scheduling and participating in person-centered planning meetings and applicant interviews.
- Collaborating with Georgia Tech faculty, staff, and students (e.g., academic coordinator, peer support coordinator, career advisors) to support holistic student development.
- Teaching at EXCEL Summer Academies
- Conducting information sessions for prospective students and families.
Required Qualifications

Lecturer
- Graduate degree in Education, or related area
Senior Lecturer
- Graduate degree in Education, or related area
- At least six (6) years full-time relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in programs for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
- Ideal candidates will be knowledgeable in curriculum development and assessment, familiar with the best practices in undergraduate education, and possess strong communication and managerial skills. A demonstrated commitment to the education and development of students with I/DD is essential.
- Additionally, preferred qualifications include experience working in a collaborative team environment, familiarity with adaptive technologies and universal design principles, and an understanding of educational development and employment transition processes for students with I/DD.
